What I am, is who I will be.
Was on bus talking to blur blur, then suddenly say “I don’t know what I’m good at or interested at”. Here it go again. Go what, do what? Start thinking about this topic lor.
I asked myself “what make me understand myself to know what I’m good at, what I’m bad at? My interest, hobbies and everything?”
I’m not going to elaborate how I know about it, but I’m going to start going into this topic on how to understand your interests, strengths and weakness.
Different people have different kind of way to understand themselves. For example, out of nowhere they realize playing basketball is their life. There is also people realize their talent through CCA in school. Some are even through personality test in the website.
What I say here may not be right or don’t suit everyone out there, but I will explain it to my best understanding and analyzing.
It is necessary to know what you want because it may affect you in your future career. It not anymore like the past, as long there is a career that able to earn you enough money to feed your family. Youth like us at this generation are looking for interesting, exciting job and of course, job that suit their character and interests.
First= Explore your interest
This is why there is so many kind of CCA to be choose since primary 3 onwards, beside allowing students to de-stress from their studies, it also allow students to explore their interests, strengths or weaknesses. So never only care about studies because there is a lot of inner potential waiting to be unleashed. (There is this tip to be known while exploring your own interest. While coming in contact with any activity and you feel that you are not excited to what you are learning nor looking forward, then you know, it not your type of activity. Stop learning and explore again.)
Second= Understanding of strengths and weaknesses
Through exploring personal interests, one will start to realize what they are good in or not. Thus, once interests in spotted, one will definitely continue doing what they enjoy and leave those they are not interested in. ( But you must at least have a basic understanding of what you are not interested in, or else others will say you are a noob with no common knowledge, at least understand it to have a boarder knowledge ). Once you found your interests, never stop continuously exploring because you never know what are those strengths and weakness that are still hidden in you, now you understand why “NEVER stop learning, until you die”.
Third=Be alert to your surrounding
A lot of people out there didn’t really take notice what is happening around them, set aside being updated to what is happening around the world. Thus, they only know what am I doing now, what I am suppose to do now, my homework, my stomach, my bed, my game and that it. What I mean by staying alert to your surrounding mean notice how people around you behave, does this person give you a funny feeling? fearful feeling? Good feeling? Or with a kind of envy and admire feeling? This is the time for us to know what kind of character that I want myself to have. Of course, understanding of human behavior doesn’t happen in a day or two. It take time for you to have the skill to capture it. Beside this, be alert to your surrounding can have a wider scope such as what happen to Singapore and the world tissue. So to increase our knowledge not just on studies, but on social knowledge, it also improve your skill looking at human behavior, character as well as sociology knowledge. To eventually reach at stage of having a unique mind set on the perspective on humanity issue.
Fourth= Molding your character
Never use this words as your excuse saying that “I’m born this way, what to do?” Yes! There is something in you that is born naturally but it will be your potential strength and weaknesses, character wise, it not. Character is build and mold while growing up, being taught by parent, teachers and the kind of friends you mix with. True enough? Molding of character is not easy, you have to know what should be the right thing to learn and what is not. Right and wrong is taught by parent and teachers, you won’t know if they didn’t teach, as we are all baby and kids once before. It only when you can understand what is right and wrong then it time for you to be independent, to learn what kind of character that you want yourself to have, to learn from. By abstracting the kind of character that you want yourself to have and then combine as one by building it into you and that the whole new character you will be having. There is actually formula to use, to know what is the correct character that should be build in to you
UPRIGHT BEHAVIOUR x KIND OF BAD BEHAVIOUR = MIXTURE OF BOTH
MIXTURE OF BOTH / 2 = Equilibrium
That’s the formula I use that should be build into my own character. I don’t believe in perfect character because none of us is perfect beside GOD, of course we should try to be one if you think it time that you really have the standard to do so, if not, having a equilibrium character, it good enough!
For those, who still didn’t have the skill to successfully obtain the 4 steps above, than go down to the fifth step below. For those who successfully obtain the 4 steps above, fifth step can also be applied to use because it can further confirm what you really are! Interesting NEHX!
Fifth = Take personality test.
There is a lot of personality test website now a day, so to hope people can know themselves much better through this. But DO NOT TRUST THEIR ANSWER totally, it is not totally accurate. Nevertheless, it may help more or less.
Once successfully obtaining the fifth stage, It almost EVERYTHING! But also not EVERYTHING. What the hell I’m talking! The reason is because character and interests can be change over time, age or the kind of environment that everyone is coming in contact with. But, not to worry about the change because you have at least got the skill on character formula and molding of character, knowing how to explore for your interests. Just apply over and over again, you will stay good!
5 steps above will eventually bring up your Emotional intelligent ( EQ ) greatly and let you understand the important of being far sighted. Not only this, you will also be able to know what you want for your own career base on your strengths and weaknesses as well as your interests. There is all kind of career around the world, even if there isn’t. Then be your own boss! Because there is no jobs created that doesn’t earn money! As long as your service or products appeal to customer out there, you are the winner.
Tip for the day= You hold your fate in your hand, it your choice to mold it good or bad. A wonderful shape of vase, jade, diamond, gold or silver doesn’t make in a day. It go through all kind of process and steps that it require in order to sold at high price, being appeal to all that know how to admire. Shinning above all !! Remember what I am, is who I will be and you won’t feel lost for the rest of your life anymore.
